Why Choose Us

The right veterinary partner for your beloved companion is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a pet owner. At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we believe in compassionate, relationship-based care rather than transactional services. Our practice stands out because we combine cutting-edge medical technology with the personal touch that comes from truly caring about every patient we treat.

Comprehensive Emergency and Critical Care

When your pet faces a medical emergency, every minute counts. Our clinic provides full emergency and critical care services during business hours, including triage assessment, CPR, IV fluid therapy, oxygen supplementation, and immediate pain management. We understand how frightening emergency cases can be for pet owners, which is why our Gatesville Animal Clinic team responds quickly and keeps you informed throughout the entire process.

Having on-site emergency capabilities means your pet receives immediate attention without the stress of traveling to distant facilities. Our veterinarians are trained to handle urgent situations ranging from sudden illnesses to accidents, ensuring your companion gets the life-saving treatment they need. We maintain relationships with after-hours emergency clinics in Waco and Temple for seamless care when our office is closed.

Advanced Surgical and Diagnostic Technology

Modern veterinary medicine requires modern equipment, and we’ve invested in tools that make diagnosis more accurate and treatment more effective. Our surgical laser technology offers significant advantages over traditional methods, including reduced bleeding, less post-operative pain, and faster healing times for your pet. Combined with our digital x-ray system, we can quickly identify internal issues and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Our in-house laboratory at Gatesville Animal Clinic allows us to run comprehensive blood work, chemistry panels, and disease screening tests without sending samples elsewhere. This means faster results and quicker answers when you’re worried about your pet’s health. Our diagnostic capabilities include ultrasound imaging and digital dental radiography, providing thorough evaluations and targeted treatments for various conditions.

Continuity of Care Through Complete Records and Specialized Expertise

Every detail about your pet’s health history matters when making treatment decisions. We maintain comprehensive medical records that document vaccinations, previous illnesses, surgical procedures, medication responses, and diagnostic results throughout your pet’s lifetime. This ensures that anyone on our staff can provide informed care based on your pet’s complete medical background.  Everyone on our team stays current with the latest advances in veterinary care. Our depth of experience across multiple specialties ensures your pet receives well-rounded, knowledgeable attention during every vet visit.

Access to detailed records becomes especially valuable during emergencies or when addressing chronic conditions. Our system allows us to track trends in lab values over time, identify patterns in recurring issues, and adjust treatment plans based on what has worked previously. This organized approach prevents duplicate testing, reduces medical errors, and creates seamless transitions between routine wellness visits at Gatesville Animal Clinic and urgent care situations when your pet needs immediate attention.

Full-Service Boarding and Daycare Facilities

Reliable pet care when you travel or work long hours can be stressful, but our boarding facilities provide a safe, supervised environment under veterinary oversight. We offer climate-controlled indoor and outdoor spaces with a dedicated “Cats Only” area to reduce stress for feline guests. All boarding pets must be current on vaccinations to protect the health of every animal in our care.

Our indoor climate-controlled facility for dog daycare features calming lavender scents, classical music, and up to five walks daily to keep your pup active and happy. Cat condos offer two-story private spaces positioned near birdfeeders for entertainment. We even provide special touches like bacon-scented bubbles for dogs and catnip bubbles for cats to make their stay enjoyable. This level of attention we provide at Gatesville Animal Clinic helps maintain your pet’s emotional well-being while you’re away.

Preventive Care Focused on Lifelong Wellness

The best medicine is prevention, and we emphasize proactive healthcare to keep healthy pets thriving. Our wellness programs include comprehensive physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite prevention with oral preventatives and injectable heartworm prevention options, and nutritional counseling. We tailor our recommendations based on your pet’s lifestyle, breed, and individual risk factors.

Senior pet wellness programs are especially important for detecting age-related conditions early when they’re most treatable. At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we recommend twice-yearly exams for pets over seven years old to monitor for arthritis, dental disease, kidney problems, and other common issues. Regular preventive care helps your furry family members enjoy longer, healthier lives while potentially avoiding emergency treatments for preventable conditions.

Understanding Canine Internal Medicine Solutions for Your Pet

Complex health conditions in dogs require specialized attention and advanced diagnostic tools. Our canine internal medicine services address illnesses affecting your pet’s organ systems, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and gastrointestinal tract. At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we treat every dog with a systematic approach that begins with a thorough physical examination and detailed symptom history.

Animals can’t tell us where it hurts or how they feel. That’s why we rely on comprehensive testing to identify underlying problems accurately. Our Licensed Veterinary Technicians and experienced support staff work together to provide quality care throughout the diagnostic process. We explain each recommended test and how it contributes to understanding your dog’s condition.

Diagnostic Tools That Reveal Hidden Health Issues

Point-of-care testing at Gatesville Animal Clinic delivers immediate results when time matters most. We perform chemistry profiles, complete blood counts, and thyroid panels right here in our hospital. This technology allows us to assess organ function, check baseline blood values, and screen for infectious diseases without delay.

Our imaging capabilities give us detailed views inside your pet’s body. Digital x-rays help us diagnose heart conditions, lung problems, gastrointestinal obstructions, tumors, and bone disorders. Most patients need only gentle restraint during these procedures. Here’s what our diagnostic services reveal:

  • Fluid accumulation in the chest or abdominal cavity
  • Urinary stones and bladder tumors through ultrasound
  • Heart valve defects and cardiac function
  • Masses and dysfunctional organs in the abdomen
  • Corneal injuries through fluorescein staining

How We Create Treatment Plans at Gatesville Animal Clinic

An accurate diagnosis drives effective treatment. We prioritize the most helpful tests for determining what’s causing your dog’s illness. Ultrasound technology offers non-invasive, real-time visualization without radiation exposure. We use it for ultrasound-guided cystocentesis to obtain sterile urine samples and lung aspirates when needed.

Microscopic evaluation helps us diagnose canine dermatologic and ear conditions through careful examination. Our approach includes these specialized assessments:

  • Ear swabs to identify infections
  • Skin impressions and scrapes for parasites
  • Fine-needle biopsies of tumors for analysis
  • Schirmer tear tests to evaluate eye moisture
  • Tonometry to measure intra-ocular pressure

At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we combine medical excellence with genuine relationships between our staff, clients, and their pets. Our mission centers on providing exceptional care in a compassionate environment built on trust and integrity. Contact us today to schedule a comprehensive examination for your canine companion.

Pet Boarding at Our Gatesville Veterinary Facility

When you need a safe place for your pet while you travel, Gatesville Animal Clinic offers boarding services that go beyond typical kennels. Our climate-controlled facility operates under direct veterinary supervision, which means your pet receives medical attention immediately if needed. We opened our dedicated boarding building in 2013, and it features spacious individual runs with heating and air conditioning year-round. Your dog can enjoy outdoor time in two exercise yards during their stay with us.

What sets our boarding apart is the veterinary oversight. If your pet develops any health concerns while you’re away, our trained staff can provide diagnostics and treatment right here without delays. You won’t worry about transportation to another clinic or coordinating care from a distance.

Medical Requirements We Follow

At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we maintain strict vaccination policies to protect every animal in our care. Your dog needs current Rabies, DHLPPC, and Bordetella vaccines administered at least ten days before arrival. Puppies must reach twelve weeks old and complete two DHPPC vaccination sets before boarding.

Cats require current Rabies and FVRCP vaccines. You’ll need to provide proof from a veterinary clinic, rescue, or shelter. Here’s what else you should know:

  • Owner-administered vaccines don’t meet our requirements
  • Canine influenza vaccination is recommended but optional
  • All pets must be on flea prevention or receive Capstar treatment
  • Dogs without heartworm prevention need fecal testing
  • Deworming is mandatory and can happen at check-in

What Your Pet Needs During Their Stay

Bring your pet’s regular food in measured portions using plastic containers or bags. At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we provide Royal Canin Small Bites, and sensitive skin and stomach diet options if you prefer our food. Pack any medications in original bottles with clear dosing instructions.

Personal items help your pet feel more at home during their visit. Here’s what we welcome:

  • Toys that provide comfort and entertainment
  • Blankets or bedding with familiar scents
  • Comfort items that reduce stress
  • Treats your pet enjoys
  • Any special care instructions

We require reservations before any boarding drop-off. Our team at Gatesville Animal Clinic will take excellent care of your companion while you’re away, giving you peace of mind during your travels. Call us to schedule your pet’s stay and learn more about our boarding services.

How Pet Dental Care Protects Your Companion’s Overall Health

Oral health plays a major role in your pet’s quality of life. Most companion animals develop some level of periodontal disease by their third birthday, yet many owners remain unaware until serious problems emerge. Bacterial infections along the gum line create plaque that hardens into tartar, leading to tissue damage and potential tooth loss. At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we perform thorough oral assessments during routine examinations to catch problems early.

The consequences of untreated dental disease extend far beyond your pet’s mouth. Bacteria can travel through the bloodstream and affect the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys. Regular professional cleanings combined with at-home care prevent these systemic complications. Our practice uses digital dental x-ray technology to see what’s happening beneath the gum line, where much of the damage occurs invisibly.

Steps You Can Take Before Disease Advances

Early intervention makes a significant difference in your pet’s oral health. We recommend starting preventive measures as soon as you notice any signs of plaque buildup or gum inflammation. Simple daily habits can slow the progression of dental disease and reduce the need for extensive treatments later.

Home care gives you control over your pet’s dental health between professional visits at Gatesville Animal Clinic. Consider these approaches:

  • Brush your pet’s teeth with veterinary-approved toothpaste
  • Offer dental treats designed to reduce plaque
  • Use oral rinses that fight bacteria
  • Feed specialized dental diets that clean teeth mechanically
  • Schedule examinations yearly or twice annually

What Happens During Professional Dental Treatment

General anesthesia allows us to perform a complete examination safely. Gatesville Animal Clinic follows a COHAT protocol that involves spending a full day at our hospital. We start with pre-operative lab work to screen your pet’s health before administering anesthesia.

Our comprehensive treatment addresses every aspect of oral health. Here’s what we include:

  • IV catheterization for fluid support and medication delivery
  • Digital dental x-rays to assess structures below the gum line
  • Professional cleaning and polishing to remove all plaque and tartar
  • Detailed charting that documents each tooth’s condition
  • Extractions when teeth cannot be saved

At Gatesville Animal Clinic, we review post-procedure instructions with you at discharge, covering medications, feeding guidelines, and when to resume home dental care. Taking action now helps your pet avoid painful complications and live a healthier, longer life.

What vaccinations are required to Board my dog at Gatesville Animal Clinic?

What animals does your clinic treat?

We provide comprehensive veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and pocket pets. Our Gatesville Animal Clinic team has extensive experience working with these companion animals and understands their unique healthcare needs at every life stage. You can have a young puppy, a senior cat, or a small pet, and we’re equipped to provide appropriate medical attention.

Do you offer boarding and daycare services?

Yes, Gatesville Animal Clinic provides both boarding and daycare services in our climate-controlled facilities under veterinary supervision. Our boarding areas include separate spaces for dogs and cats to reduce stress, while our daycare program offers interactive toys, multiple daily walks, and personalized attention. All pets must be current on required vaccinations before using these services.

What should I do if my pet has an emergency after hours?

During our business hours Monday through Friday, our Gatesville Animal Clinic team can handle emergency cases with full critical care capabilities including immediate assessment and treatment. These facilities provide overnight emergency services when our clinic is closed.

How often should I bring my pet for wellness exams?

Most healthy adult pets benefit from annual wellness examinations that include physical assessment, vaccination updates, and parasite prevention. Senior pets over seven years old should visit Gatesville Animal Clinic twice yearly to monitor for age-related conditions like arthritis and organ disease. Puppies and kittens typically need more frequent visits during their first year for vaccination series and developmental monitoring.

Our practice emphasizes genuine relationships with pet owners rather than transactional interactions.
